Employee housing is provided in a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house with a downstairs efficiency apartment. Housing will be shared amongst up to ten Work and Travel Participants.
Upstairs features a full kitchen, living room, dining area, and television with Neflix/Hulu in the living room. The master room with private bedroom will be shared by up to three participants. The two additional rooms will be shared by two participants each.
The downstairs efficiency unit will be shared amongst up to 3 participants, and has a private entrance, full bathroom, and partial kitchen. Linens are provided and there are on-site laundry facilities for participants to utilize.
Housing is co-ed; bathrooms will be shared between genders, and bedrooms will only be shared by participants of the same genders.

PAY NOTES:
Tips are not guaranteed and are distributed based on work ethic and performance. Tips are distributed bi-weekly with paychecks. Hourly wage with tips can equal $14-17 per hour.
Cooks can earn an additional $1-2 per hour. Cooks that are oven tending and expediting can expect to earn an additional $3-4 per hour.
Participants that have previous experience as cook/kitchen help may be eligible to earn tips sooner than two weeks if they are able to complete training prior to the two weeks training period.
Tips fluctuate throughout season depending on the number of cooks on staff. Tips are typically higher on weekends and peak mealtimes.
Position Description:
As a member of the Back of House/Kitchen staff your responsibilities are key to the restaurant’s success. At Outer Banks Yellow Submarine Pizza & Subs, you will be considered an all-around culinary employee.
Participants hired for Back Of House/Kitchen Staff will be cross-trained and required to work in various back of house (BOH) positions based on skills and business needs, including but not limited to Dishwasher, Prep Cook, Cook and Expeditor. Participants with excellent work ethic, strong English Skills and outstanding Guest Service Skills may be offered the ability to move to a Front of House Position. You will be working with pork products in this position. Please be prepared for this.
PARTICIPANTS WORKING IN THE KITCHEN POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR AN END OF SEASON BONUS:
An end of season bonus may be paid to EXCELLENT WORKERS in the Back of House/Kitchen Staff position. This was only paid to top performers and not all participants will receive a bonus. To be eligible the employee must not be problematic or cause any drama. The employee must demonstrate excellent work ethic. The employee must ALWAYS be prompt to arrive at work and stay busy throughout their shift. The employee must have outstanding work performance, have not received any disciplinary action, or performance issues during their employment. The Bonus check is paid upon completion of the work agreement and is equivalent to $1 per every hour worked throughout the duration of the participant’s employment.
Dishwasher Duties Include:
- Load and unload automatic dish washing machine with dishes, glassware and utensils
- Operate automatic dish washing machine
- Wash pots and pans, kitchen equipment, and other items as needed, by hand
- Inspect all items for appropriate cleanliness
- Place clean items in appropriate storage locations
- Perform kitchen prep work
- Sweep and mop floors
- Sort and remove trash and glass, and properly dispose in designated pickup areas
- Bus restaurant tables as needed
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Observe health and safety precautions required to protect people and property
- All other duties as assigned
Prep Cook/Cook Duties Include:
- Wash, peel and cut vegetables and fruits
- Work with and prepare various meats including poultry, beef, and pork
- Assist with cleaning food preparation areas, facilities and equipment
- Assist with dish washing duties as needed
- Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment
- Observe health and safety precautions required to protect people and property
- All other duties as assigned
Expeditor duties include
- Oversees the final presentation of all dishes, taking the prepared entrée from the cooks and making sure it is garnished and presented properly – free from smudges or spills.

SECOND JOBS:
Second jobs are permitted. Employees must be available for every shift they are scheduled to work at Outer Banks Yellow Submarine Pizza & Subs, and their second job must not interfere with their work performance.
Participants are not permitted to start work at a second job without receiving approval from US Sponsor first.
TYPICAL SCHEDULE:
Shifts will vary with variety of morning, afternoon and evening shifts. You will work up to 6 days/week.
Working Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays is required. The Host Company cannot give these days off. Your day off will typically be a slower day during the week.
Set schedules are not possible and the schedule cannot be arranged around the schedule or another job. If you obtain a second job, their schedule will need to be arranged around the schedule of Yellow Submarine.
The Host Company is not required to give friends traveling together the same schedules. Please be prepared for this.
ADDITIONAL HOURS DETAILS:
Typical schedule is 35-50 hours per week. Some weeks may be more, some weeks may be less depending on weather or business needs. You will average a minimum of 32 hours per week over your program. Overtime hours may be available but are not guaranteed.
